Chelsea have confirmed that Diego Moreira has joined RC Strasbourg in a permanent transfer. The Portugal Under 21 international joined the Blues from Benfica back in July 2023 and made his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup against AFC Wimbledon at the start of last season.
However, Moreira completed a loan move to Lyon on transfer deadline day and made nine appearances for the Ligue 1 side before returning to Chelsea in January. During the remainder of the season, Moreira cemented himself as an integral figure in the Under 21s and helped the Blues reach the Premier League 2 play-offs with a stunning hat-trick against Arsenal. But now, Moreira has left Chelsea to join RC Strasbourg, who are also owned by BlueCo. Reports have suggested that the Blues have a buy-back clause in a deal for Moreira, who has signed a five-year contract at the French club.
Strasbourg are managed by former Hull boss Liam Rosenior and he could make his debut against Montpellier on Sunday. Moreira is set to be reunited with two former Chelsea teammates after Andrey Santos and Caleb Wiley both made the loan switch to Strasbourg earlier this summer. As well as those three, Djordje Petrovic has also been linked with a move to Le Racing as his Chelsea future continues to grow uncertain.
A permanent move for Moreira comes as Chelsea continue to negotiate with Atletico Madrid over a deal involving Conor Gallagher and Joao Felix. The discussion between the two parties initially centred around a deal that would see both Gallagher and Samu Omorodion switch clubs.
However, an agreement regarding Omorodion fell through at the last minute, complicating the transfer and putting Gallagher's move to Madrid on hold. Despite the setback, talks have not collapsed with Felix now added into the mix instead of Omorodion. According to Fabrizio Romano, there is still cautious optimism that a deal can be reached, although Felix is keen on a return to Stamford Bridge.
