Chelsea seem to have left it late this summer when it comes to making some big signings for their first team.
It seems the decision makers at the club believe Enzo Maresca still needs some reinforcements after the disappointing pre-season tour of the United States that saw them win only one game.It became clear the positions they feel they need to strengthen, and it still felt like more quality could be brought to the attack ahead of the return of Premier League football to Stamford Bridge.
News has broken today that they could be about to strike a deal that would do just that.
It has been claimed that the Blues are in the final stages of agreeing a deal with Wolves for the signing of Pedro Neto.
Chelsea set to sign Pedro Neto
According to Fabrice Hawkins, the player has agreed to join the Blues ahead of the upcoming season.
He said: “EXCLUSIVE Pedro Neto is set to sign at Chelsea. Talks at final stage between Chelsea and Wolverhampton.
“The player wants to join Chelsea. Agreement in principle ok.”
Chelsea were preparing to go into the new season with Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk as their starting options on the left wing, with neither filling supporters with hope ahead of the new season.
Even though youngster Tyrique George has been pushing to break into the side during pre-season, it felt to many like a new addition was needed.
There was reported interest in Nico Williams after his stunning summer with Spain ahead of Marc Cucurella at Euro 2024, however he looks set to stay in his home country.
Tottenham and Arsenal wanted Pedro Neto
Talk of Neto being on the move was more related to some of Chelsea’s rivals. Both Tottenham and Arsenal have been linked with a deal.
The Portugal winger has frequently shown his class in the Premier League, however Chelsea fans will likely note one potential issue which has affected them all too many times before.
Neto has a very unfortunate injury record, suffering two hamstring injuries just last season.
After hardly being able to see new signings of Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku at all during the last campaign, there will be caution over whether he can prove those problems are mostly behind him.
