Chelsea look set to move on two deals now that an £82m transfer agreement has been set with Atletico Madrid
It's been an interesting summer for Chelsea so far, with plenty of upheaval both on and off the pitch. Enzo Maresca is now in charge and looking to implement his own ideas and style on a team with plenty of new faces already added. That being said, it looks as if there will be even more changes to the playing squad, with just over three weeks remaining in the transfer window. As ever, there are plenty of moving parts on every deal, and following the Blues' disappointing pre-season defeat to Manchester City, there seems plenty of work to be done ahead of the season opener against Pep Guardiola's side on August 18th.
With the Blues set to head home from their tour of America, which took in a remarkable five states and five matches in around two weeks, all focus will be switching to the kick-off of the new season - but there could be more new faces joining the squad...
Transfer domino effect
Atletico Madrid have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Julian Alvarez from Manchester City in a move worth up to €95million (£81.7million).
That looks to be important for the Blues because it means they can now move forward with two deals involving the La Liga side.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that while a move for Conor Gallagher to the Spanish capital had been agreed, it can now progress with Atleti having certainty on their other big move for the summer with the Argentine forward.
It also means they will now allow Samu Omorodion to move to Chelsea in a transfer worth £34.5million, with only small details on terms to be sorted out - but all parties are confident on a deal being done.
A big decision from Chelsea. While I'm intrigued to see what Omorodion can bring to the side, I'm not sure he's particularly what the club needs at the moment to help them with a push for the top four.
He's a talented young striker, granted, but is he an improvement on what they already have? Not judging on last season's numbers. He managed nine goals last year, with eight coming during his loan spell at Alaves. Not too shabby, but fewer than Nicolas Jackson managed the previous season at Villarreal.
He could become a great player for the Blues. But he's not a league-leading striker - something they need to compete with the top sides in their quest for success.
Gilchrist loan
Chelsea youngster Alfie Gilchrist is set to seal a season-long loan to Sheffield United, according to multiple reports.
The 20-year-old was left out of the pre-season tour of America so that he could focus on finding a club for the upcoming campaign, and it has now emerged that he prefers a move to Brammall Lane.
Gilchrist made 17 appearances for the Blues last season, seven of which were starts.
