Chelsea have now confirmed that summer signing Caleb Wiley has joined French side Strasbourg for the season – as they want him to get some much needed game time over the next 12 months.
Chelsea made the shock announcement last month that Wiley was the clubs seventh summer signing of the summer – and the left-back joined up with his new side after the Olympic games in Paris. However – after being at the club for the past few weeks – the decision from the Chelsea board has now been made and the summer signing will spend the season at French side Strasbourg.
Chelsea posted on the club website: ‘ Chelsea defender Caleb Wiley has completed a season-long loan move to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.
‘The 19-year-old joined the Blues last month from Atlanta United before representing the USA at the Olympic Games in Paris.
‘Caleb will now join up with Strasbourg for the forthcoming campaign. We look forward to supporting his development throughout the season.
‘Good luck, Caleb.’
Ahead of his arrival at CHELSEA– former coach Gonzalo Pineda has admitted that the lad has some serious talent: ‘What I see from Caleb is this passion,’ Gonzalo Pineda said. ‘Of course, the amazing talent he has, but the passion, energy and maturity he has in his game.’
Wiley joined Chelsea and got shipped straight out on loan for the season – we are sure that is no what he wanted or he would have not made the move to the Premier League giants this summer.
He should get some game time at Strasbourg – but he needs to get used to that life now – getting loaned out to different clubs over the next few seasons with the premise that he may be given a chance in that CHELSEAside.
