Chelsea FC have officially announced the signing of Oriane Jean-Francois, a highly-rated young French midfielder, from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 22-year-old has committed to a three-year contract with the London club, with an option to extend for an additional year.Jean-Francois began her senior career in Paris, initially with Paris FC, where she signed her first professional contract and made her first-team debut shortly before turning 18.
In the summer of 2022, she transitioned to PSG, where she spent two seasons and won the Coupe de France.
Unfortunately, her time with PSG was marred by an anterior cruciate ligament injury in October last year during the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying, which sidelined her for an extended period.
Despite this setback, her potential and performances have caught the eye of Chelsea, who are eager to see her contributions on the pitch.
On the international stage, Jean-Francois has represented France at various youth levels, contributing to the Under-19 European Championship victory in 2019.
She made her senior debut for France in 2020 and has since earned five caps for the national team.
Known for her versatility and dynamism, Jean-Francois can operate as a defensive midfielder or a box-to-box player.
With 93 senior matches under her belt, she brings considerable experience and a robust attitude to Chelsea.
Expressing her excitement, Jean-Francois said, “It is a good moment for my career and the player I want to be. I’m very happy to sign here and I’m excited to start my journey.”
Chelsea’s general manager, Paul Green, also praised the young midfielder, stating, “Oriane is a young, athletic defensive midfielder with good experience for her age.
“She has shown a great attitude, and we are looking forward to seeing how she takes the next steps in her career whilst at the club.”
The Chelsea community warmly welcomes Oriane Jean-Francois and wishes her every success as she embarks on this new chapter in her career.
