Chelsea are reportedly closing in on a new signing because one player has been undergoing medicals on Tuesday.
Now that Enzo Maresca has been officially announced as Chelsea’s new head coach for next season, the supporters can turn their focus towards the transfer gossip for the upcoming summer window. So, how many new faces will be added to the squad for incoming boss Maresca?
The Daily Mail claims that Tosin Adarabioyo has been undergoing medicals on Tuesday ahead of an imminent move to Chelsea.
It is explained that the 26-year-old defender, whose Fulham deal expires this summer, will complete a move to Stamford Bridge once the formalties are done.
The report says that the English centre-back agreed to join the Blues at the weekend and talks have progressed quickly after Newcastle United had previously led the transfer race.
Adarabioyo is set to be the first new signing of the Maresca era at Chelsea. Interestingly, the Blues manager previously coached him for a brief period in Manchester City’s academy.
Will Tosin Adarabioyo start next season?
When fit, Adarabioyo has been a key starter in recent seasons at Craven Cottage. He surely won’t want to go from a vital Fulham player to a fringe man at Chelsea.
The 6t 5in centre-half looks set to compete alongside several quality defenders in the Chelsea ranks, but he’s got a great chance of playing. In particular, qualification for next season’s UEFA Conference League should force Maresca into rotating his squad a bit.
Described as “fantastic” by Darragh Lenihan (Lancashire Times), Adarabioyo is a Premier League proven central defender that is quick, strong and comfortable on the ball.
At the age of 26, he should be arriving at Chelsea just before he enters his peak years.
This could be a free transfer that turns out to be a very shrewd deal.
