New Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is already seemingly making decisions surrounding his squad ahead of the new season as preparations begin. The new boss officially starts his role on July 1, but that won’t stop him from assessing his squad and making decisions over who does and who doesn’t have a future.
He wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Understand Chelsea new coach Maresca told the board that he really likes Robert Sánchez.“Maresca, looking forward to working with Spanish GK next season as he believes Robert is ready for next phase of his career. Chelsea expect Sánchez to stay at the club this summer.”
Chelsea have been linked with an interest in other goalkeepers this summer, but it seems that Maresca is keen to work with Sanchez. One of the manager’s key tactic with Leicester last season was using the goalkeeper as effectively an outfield player, meaning that Sanchez will have to adapt.
As well as providing an update on Sanchez, Romano also posted about loanee Omari Hutchinson. He wrote: “Chelsea won’t loan out Omari Hutchinson again this summer. Permanent deal, only way.
“#CFC would only consider bids around £25/30m for Omari. Understand Stuttgart are pushing a lot to sign him, favorites — with more clubs in PL, Ajax and Feyenoord also keen.”
Hutchinson spent last season on loan with Ipswich, whom he helped earn promotion to the Premier League alongside Maresca’s Leicester. The Italian would therefore have had a chance to have a closer look at the winger than most others.
If Chelsea do sell this summer, it is still to be seen. But the £25-30 million brought in from any sale would come in handy given the club’s worries around the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs).
If no club offers what Chelsea wants, then the player could potentially be promoted to the first team to work under Maresca. Hutchinson scored 10 times and provided a further six assists in the Championship last season.
