Chelsea’s deal to sign Tosin Adarabioyo is signed and almost sealed, with Fabrizio Romano tonight reporting that his medical was completed today
Another interesting snippet came from TalkSport. Their chief football correspondent Alex Crooks reported that Newcastle, our main rivals for the defender’s signature on a free transfer this summer, offered the former Fulham player £100,000 a week. That’s apparently triple his wages with the Whites – although we struggle to believe he was on just £33,000 a week. That’s what most youth players are on these days.
Whatever the case, Adarabioyo has turned down the Magpies and is coming to Stamford Bridge, where he will be reunited with Enzo Maresca, who coached him briefly in Manchester City’s youth team. It’s a win for Chelsea, who not only get the man they wanted, but also prevent their rivals Newcastle, who look set to battle us for a top 4 place next season once again, getting theirs.
It’s an interesting anecdote to be sure – but the real question is what he’s on at Chelsea.
We can imagine there’s certainly some pulling power to the glamour of West London still, and it would suit him to not have to move the length of the country. In fact, he wouldn’t even have to move house. But Newcastle have almost equal pulling power as well as spending power as us these days. We’d imagine our offer to him can’t have been far from the £100k being reported here.
The full details of the contract haven’t been released yet, but we expect it to be a very long one, as most of those offered by the new ownership have been. It is also likely to be heavily incentivised – let’s hope he earns lots of them, as that will mean Chelsea are winning games
