"What We Are Hearing", Fabrizio Romano provides update on Chelsea's signing £100m rated star this summer

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that there’s been no contact whatsoever between Chelsea and Sporting Lisbon striker, Victor Gyökeres, based on what he’s been told.

Gyökeres is at the moment, arguably the most prolific striker in Europe, after hitting an impressive 32 goals in 36 matches for Sporting across all competitions. The 25-year-old also has 11 assists to his credit at this stage of the season.

Expectedly, the player has been linked with a transfer to one of the bigger clubs in Europe, with Chelsea among the teams rumoured to be keen on signing him.

Back in January, some outlets claimed that Chelsea even held internal discussions about potentially placing a bid for the forward, but Romano has now stated that to the best of his knowledge, the Blues haven’t yet made contact with the player or his camp over a possible transfer.

He told Caught Offside: “They always want the entire release clause to let a player go when he is a superstar, like in this case with Viktor Gyokores. I am sure they will ask for the release clause, €100 million.

“This is what they did in January when some clubs started to enquire about the situation. I’m sure it is going to be difficult but I’m also sure there will be interest.

“From what I’m hearing in this case, Chelsea were already rumoured as a potential destination in January, but the information I got is that Chelsea never started a conversation for him in the January window, with Sporting or with the player. I think there is other names for Chelsea as priority, with [Victor] Osimhen and others.

“Arsenal are keeping a close eye on that market [the Portuguese one] so let’s see what Arsenal will try to do or if some other club will jump into this situation.”
