Pochettino singles out one player for praise after a wonderful performance against Leeds United

Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah was one of the best players on the pitch during last night’s FA Cup victory over Leeds United.

That is according to Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea were involved in a dramatic 3-2 win on Wednesday evening over Leeds at Stamford Bridge.

Conor Gallagher’s 90th minute winning goal has set up a tie against Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

It’s going to take time for the fanbase to get over the League Cup final defeat against Liverpool, but beating rivals Leeds to progress in a different cup is a good start.

Pochettino singled out Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, 24, for big praise in his post-match interview after the Leeds win.

The English centre-back completed 90 minutes on his first start of the season.

“So pleased with him! He was very good, one of the best players on the pitch. I’m so happy to recover him; he was full of confidence, and he showed good character and personality. He’s a player we can count on,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Chelsea’s official website.

It’s a huge bonus to finally have Chalobah back fit and ready to play games for us.

Whether it’s at right-back or centre-back, Chalobah is going to put in a solid performance in defence.

He missed the entire first half of this campaign with the thigh injury he picked up in pre-season.

The academy graduate’s returned this month with a couple of substitute appearances before 90 minutes yesterday.

In our view, Chalobah looked solid yet not spectacular against Leeds. We’re confident he’ll only improve with more fitness and he could be an important player in the back stretch of the season.

But 90min recently claimed that Chalobah is free to leave Chelsea at the end of the season. Journalist Bobby Vincent said on The Si Phillips Talks Chelsea Podcast last month that Chalobah is valued at around £35m by Chelsea.
