Good news from Stamford Bridge as wonderkid arrives Chelsea's training ground to join first team

Chelsea signed Kendry Paez from Independiente del Valle last June.

However, the attacking midfielder will not be able to officially join Chelsea until he turns 18.

The above, though, has not stopped Kendry Paez from coming over to spend some time at Chelsea. And in his visit this week, according to journalist Nathan Gissing, the 16-year-old will train with the first team.

Paez looks set to go far in the game, already winning five caps for Ecuador. His agent Manuel Sierra has even backed him to win the Ballon d’Or one day.

For now, Paez will continue playing for Independiente del Valle, who he has represented on 29 occasions.

It will do Paez the world of good training with the likes of Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling, players who have been in the game for so long and have accomplished so much.

Hopefully it can really help the young Ecuadorian’s development and speed it up.

With Paez not set to link up with Chelsea until 2025, it is going to be a while before the Stamford Bridge faithful get to see him in action. And even then, he will still be only 18 years of age so may not be ready for a first-team role.

Nevertheless, with the talent and potential Paez has, if the Blues manage him properly, you would expect him to become a member of their senior squad one day.

Mauricio Pochettino cannot afford to think that far ahead, though. His Chelsea contract is actually set to expire when Paez arrives, while the Argentine needs to concentrate on actually getting past this season.

With his side currently sitting 10th in the Premier League table, you would have to fear for the former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur manager’s future if things do not improve. Graham Potter was sacked with the Blues stranded in a similar position last term.
