Chelsea have recently been linked with Flamengo star Pedro as they look to bring in a new striker.
Pedro is one forward who Chelsea have on their shortlist and has a €60m (£51m) release clause in his contract, according to O Dia.Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz has now confirmed where Chelsea have actually made an offer for the 26-year-old, with ESPN relaying his quotes.
Pedro has scored over 108 goals for Flamengo, but he is yet to prove himself outside of Brazil.
The striker had a brief spell in Italy with Fiorentina, making just four appearances for the Serie A side.
Marcos Braz addresses Pedro and Chelsea rumours
Flamengo’s vice-president says the club have not received any offers from Chelsea for Pedro.
“At no point in this window have we had any requests from Pedro, either from the player or his agent,” Braz said. “I’m not aware of this information from Chelsea. There’s been absolutely nothing from us. The strong window is the one in the middle of the year, this one is a complementary one. There was nothing for Pedro, neither official nor unofficial.
“It’s natural, if the team is progressing, that there will be an offer for the player. The proposals will be natural, when Flamengo is notified, we will respond.”
We do not see it happening unless the Blues cannot get any of their other striker targets.
Pedro, who is yet to score a goal in Europe, is too much of a gamble. Late in the summer transfer window, if Chelsea have not signed a centre-forward by then, we will see.
As of now, though, there have been no moves. According to journalist Julio Miguel Neto, Pedro’s entourage are unaware of any interest from Chelsea.
One striker who would be much less of a gamble for Mauricio Pochettino is Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
The 27-year-old has been on fire since returning from his eight-month ban. In six Premier League games, he has already scored four goals.
Chelsea have made Toney their No.1 target for the summer transfer window, a report from The Sun recently claimed.
