The pursuit of Brazilian forward Matheus Goncalves, who has a €100 million release clause, is said to have received Chelsea owner Todd Boehly’s approval.
After owner Todd Boehly gives the go-ahead, Chelsea may look to sign Matheus Goncalves, according to A Bola. The Flamengo youngster has a €100 million release clause in his contract, which the Blues are unlikely to pay. The Premier League club are expected to negotiate their way to an agreement with the Brazilian club. Spanish giants Barcelona are also keen on the player.
Under the new ownership led by Todd Boehly, Chelsea have been a different team. If not on the pitch then definitely in the transfer market.
In the previous three windows, the American billionaire has approved signings totaling more than a billion pounds, including agreements above €100 million for Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea are now chasing young players with significant potential for growth rather than searching the market for experienced players.
They have thoroughly investigated the markets in South America, and at least three separate deals have been made under Boehly’s leadership.
These include agreements for Brazilian pair Andrey Santos and Angelo Gabriel, as well as Ecuadorian starlet Kendry Paez.
With Vitor Roque’s recent arrival, the Catalans are also in the hunt, determined to add more South American talent.
The 18-year-old Flamengo sensation hasn’t yet cemented a spot under Tite at the Brazilian club but Chelsea are still aiming to signing him ahead of Barcelona.
Goncalves has a release clause for €100 million, but Chelsea aren’t going to spend that much on him. Flamengo are not anticipated to ask for too much for the player who hasn’t made a big impact on the first team squad yet.
