Chelsea have reportedly been given the opportunity to sign one player from Borussia Dortmund.
Donyell Malen has been offered to Chelsea by his agent, journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on his Substack.“I’ve been told tonight that Donyell Malen from Dortmund has been offered to Chelsea by his agent,” Phillips said.
The attacker is having quite a good season at Dortmund, scoring seven goals in 18 Bundesliga appearances.
The German club signed him from PSV Eindhoven for €30m (The Athletic), which is around £25m. Last term, he scored nine goals in 26 league outings.
Malen is capable of coming up with the goods in the final third, so if the 25-year-old has been offered to Chelsea or any other club, he is quite a tempting proposition.
As well as playing on the wing, Malen can also start up top. That could make him a good signing for the Blues, especially if Armando Broja leaves before the transfer deadline.
However, there is nothing to suggest that they are actually interested in the Netherlands international, with it seeming like his agent is just putting him out there.
Rather than sign someone like Malen, we expect Chelsea to wait until the summer and buy a world-class centre-forward. At this stage, it really would be a surprise if the club brought anyone in.
But if they decide to, then Malen does not look like he would be a terrible addition to Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad, which would get weaker if Broja is loaned out.
