David Datro Fofana has completed a loan move to Burnley until the end of the season. Earlier this week the striker was recalled from his stay with Union Berlin having started 2023/24 in the Bundesliga.

The 21-year-old scored twice across 17 appearances as he netted his first Champions League goal against Napoli. The young forward had a tumultuous time in Berlin as he felt out with coach Uri Fischer before being later left out of squad by current Union Berlin boss Nenad Bjelica due to his training and attitude.

However, it appears Bjelica had some hope for Fofana who scored on his final appearance before the Bundesliga's Christmas break. Fofana's recall ensured Chelsea were able to loan Ian Maatsen to Borussia Dortmund without breaking FIFA's international loan limits.

Fofana is pleased that he has now got the opportunity to work under Vincent Kompany. Fofana said: “It feels very good to be here, I’m really happy. I think it will be a really good place for me to progress and it’s the perfect move for me.

“To work with Vincent Kompany will be very good. I have seen a couple of games already and I think this is the right place for me to make the next steps.

“I have known about Burnley for a long time, they have been in the Premier League before this season and the champions last year and I’m now looking forward to now being a part of this team.”

Premier League and FA approval is still required but Fofana could make his debut against Manchester City at the end of the month.
