While some fans have chosen to focus their attention on Chelsea’s first-leg loss to Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup semi-finals, others are taking note that Mauricio Pochettino has been so far unable to steer the club back into the European spots of the Premier League table. Help is on the way, as Cesare Casadei is returning to Stamford Bridge to bolster the first-team squad.
English journalist Matt Law, who covers Chelsea for The Telegraph, was the first to break the news Friday afternoon. His tweet stated: “Chelsea are set to recall midfielder Cesare Casadei from his loan at Leicester City.” The Italian will start training with the Chelsea senior squad.Fabrizio Romano also posted via his X account – confirming that Casadei’s loan recall from Leicester was “all done and 100% guaranteed.” He leaves the Foxes having helped guide them to the top of the Championship, making 25 appearances and scoring three goals this campaign.
Casadei joined The Blues in 2022 from Inter Milan’s academy. He was loaned to Championship outfit Reading, where he would play in 15 fixtures. 2023 would be when the youngster progressed, leading Italy to the U-20 World Cup Final. The midfielder won awards for the top scorer and best player – at the tournament.
This past summer, Casadei was again loaned out, this time to Leicester. The 21-year-old has not appeared for Chelsea’s senior squad, but that could change in the coming months. Described as a player who “always arrives in the box,” by Leicester manager Enzo Maresca, the Italian will now have a chance to fight for a spot in the starting lineup of one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
