Pochettino's Sack: Journalist claims former Chelsea manager ready to return to Stamford Bridge

Football journalist, Simon Phillips has claimed that sources close to him have told him that Jose Mourinho is open to managing Chelsea again if an opportunity arises.

He made the claim on his Substack column.

Mourinho has managed Chelsea on two different occasions in the past, and was very successful, winning multiple trophies in those times.

The Portuguese manager is however, currently in charge of AS Roma, although his current contract is up at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are at the moment, being coached by Mauricio Pochettino, who is without a doubt, a very good coach. The Argentine has however, struggled to immediately make an impact on a Chelsea team that finished 12th on the Premier League table last season. In fact, the Blues only recently moved to 10th from 12th after the 2-0 win against Sheffield United.

On the positive side, Pochettino has now guided his side to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, thanks to the win over Newcastle United on Tuesday, so the 51-year-old has reason to continue to remain at the helm for now, at least.

It is very unlikely that Pochettino will be sacked any time soon, and it might take a really bad run of games for Chelsea to part ways with the man, who is famed for his ability to work with young players. But even if he is sacked, there is still a slim chance that Mourinho will be hired, given his known desire for instance success, which clearly isn’t something the current ownership of the Blues are on board with.
