Mauricio Pochettino breaks bad news to Chelsea fans ahead Wolves game

Mauricio Pochettino has provided a negative update regarding the fitness of Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.

The Blues travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow afternoon for a Premier League match, the first Christmas Eve fixture in this country for 28 years.

However, Enzo Fernandez won’t be available for selection on Sunday.

The 22-year-old midfielder has only missed one game so far this season across all competitions, so it’s quite a blow for the team to be without him at Wolves.

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has now provided a fitness update on Fernandez.

Apparently, the Argentine star has had a hernia problem and that will keep him out on Christmas Eve.

Of course, we hope he’s soon healthy again and back on the pitch during this busy festive period.

“Enzo is going to be out for the game against Wolverhampton,” Pochettino said via Chelsea’s official website.

“We will see if he can be involved again as soon as possible. We already have information that it was a hernia and he also didn’t feel well [during the game].

“He will have treatment with the doctor and of course, he is not going to be a problem. He will be as soon as possible with the group.”

With Fernandez ruled out tomorrow, our guess is it’ll be a double pivot in midfield of Moises Caicedo and Conor Gallagher.

Fernandez’s form has gone off the boil recently and he was forced off early in midweek against Newcastle Unied, so it’s no real surprise to hear he’s had health problems off the pitch.

Speaking via The Peter Crouch podcast this week, Steve Sidwell claimed that Fernandez currently looks like a £30 million player not a £100 million star.

We’re confident that the central midfielder can regain his best form in the second half of the season, though.
