Chelsea focus attention to signing £52m defender as Thiago Silva's permanent replacement

Chelsea are going to sign a new centre-back and Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio could be an option for them.

According to reports, Chelsea will bring in a top defender next year and Goncalo Inacio is now one to watch.

The same outlet has also reported that the Portugal international has a £52m release clause in his contract.

As well as a new centre-back, it has been suggested that Chelsea could also try to sign a striker and midfielder when the transfer window reopens next month.

Mauricio Pochettino is not short of options in central defence, but the futures of some of his centre-halves are currently in doubt.

Despite having only joined the club in the summer, Axel Disasi’s position in Chelsea’s squad could already be in danger.

Another recent report from TEAMtalk has claimed that the Blues have actually made Disasi and a host of other players available for transfer.

If true, then Inacio could come in to replace the Frenchman. However, given that Disasi has not been at the club for long, it would be a shock if Chelsea parted ways with him.

Another defender at Chelsea who currently finds his future in doubt is Thiago Silva. The 39-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and nothing has been said yet about a renewal yet.

Considering Silva’s age and contract situation, an exit for the Brazilian seems way more likely than Disasi leaving. If Inacio is to replace anyone, then it is probably going to be Silva.

He has been a key player for Chelsea this season, starting all but one of their Premier League fixtures, their recent 2-0 loss to Everton. The former Paris Saint-Germain captain still has something to offer, but it looks like Chelsea may be prepared to let him go in the summer.
