Chelsea have considered making a move for Juventus attacker Federico Chiesa.
That is according to a report from Tutto Juve. The Italian outlet claims that Chelsea and Arsenal have thought about launching offers for Federico Chiesa and that Juventus could be forced to sell him if he does not sign a new contract.
Juventus signed Chiesa from Fiorentina in a deal worth up to £54m, as reported by BBC Sport, and described him as a player with “lightning speed” on their official club website.
Chiesa has scored four goals in 10 Serie A appearances this season, which is not the worst record.
However, in the last campaign, the Italian only managed two, while it was the same story in the one prior.
Chiesa has had some injury problems so has missed a lot of games, but he has never really been a prolific attacker. Is that what Chelsea need right now, a wide man who is not going to find the back of the net for them? No.
If the Blues are planning on revamping their forward line, then they need to bring in offensive players who are capable of scoring goals consistently. Their blanks against the likes of Brentford and Aston Villa show they need more clinical forwards.
Ultimately, if the club are going to sign someone who is not a clear upgrade on what they already have when it comes to goals, it is hard to imagine him really improving the team.
We do not think Chiesa is a bad player, far from it when you look at some of his performances for Juventus and Italy. But does he have enough goals in him to elevate Chelsea back up the table? His goal record suggests no.
Unless there is a desperate need to bring in a new wide man, which does not look to be the case, Chelsea should think twice before making a move for Chiesa.
