Florian Wirtz is likely to become the next talking point in the transfer market, as we close in on the January window.
The Bayer Leverkusen whizkid has already become a target for Barcelona, though the Catalans are facing strong competition from arch-rivals Real Madrid. However, Barça’s bid to sign Wirtz is set to face another hurdle, as Chelsea start closing in on the capture of the German star.
Chelsea making grounds to sign Wirtz
According to SPORT, Chelsea have made some crucial ground in their bid to sign Florian Wirtz in the coming future.
It appears the Premier League giants have made contact with Bayer Leverkusen, seeking the possibility of signing their star attacker.
The London club maintains an excellent relationship with Leverkusen, thanks to prior deals involving Kai Havertz.
Although Wirtz is likely to cost around €80 million, Chelsea are ready to battle Barcelona, Real Madrid, and even Bayern Munich, in the race to sign the German whizkid.
Wirtz had a relatively poor season last term, no thanks to an injury that dwindled his progress at Leverkusen.
However, this time around, the German international has started the season on a very bright note, racking up five goals and eight assists in all competitions.
Wirtz’s performances have helped Bayer Leverkusen assume the top spot in the Bundesliga table for now, ahead of giants Bayern, RB Leipzig, and Borussia Dortmund.
This has led to Barcelona keeping a close track on Wirtz’s future, but with Chelsea ready to go all out to sign the German, it won’t be surprising to see the Catalans missing out on yet another talent.
