Chelsea have now emerged as the frontrunners to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney in January.
We’ve seen a lot of reports in recent months linking Ivan Toney, 27, with a move away from Premier League side Brentford. The English striker will be available to play again in mid-January once his ban is served, but will he still be with the Bees?
Chelsea are the ‘firm favourites’ to sign Brentford’s centre-forward.
It is understood that Arsenal would much rather move to sign Toney next summer, which boosts Chelsea’s chances if they decide to make their own swoop in the New Year.
Apparently, the frontman has told Brentford that he wants to leave when the January window open.
The report says that Chelsea may be more willing to splash the cash for the 27-year-old attacker mid-season.
Described as “remarkable” by Brentford manager Thomas Frank (BBC) in the past, Toney’s got the all-round game as a complete striker.
Of course, there’s question marks over whether or not he can cope under the pressure of a big club. He’s proven he’s a deadly finisher at the Premier League level, though.
According to Sky Sports, Brentford value Toney at the £100million mark. We hope that Chelsea can try strike a bargain deal with Arsenal out of the running for January.
Let’s wait and see what happens in a couple of months time!
For Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea, they need to weigh up whether they’re content with their current options at the top end of the pitch. They could soon have Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja as genuine No 9 options once everyone’s fit.
Our feeling is it’s a no-brainer to move for Toney if they can negotiate a cheaper transfer.
