Chelsea fans were clear before Carabao cup clash against Blackburn that Nicolas Jackson needed a big game tonight. Sadly, he didn’t deliver.

Frustrations are building about his performances, and while Armando Broja is injured there are no other options.

That makes for an awkward situation at Stamford Bridge, where the crowd are restless after such a long string of bad results, and struggles to score.

Jackson has had a couple of false starts this season – it really felt like he was on the verge of making himself a proper Premier League menace, but now his confidence is dropping and he looks to be getting further away from where he needs to be.

It’s hard to imagine Broja not coming back into the team immediately when he’s fit again – although nobody is really sure he’s the long term solution anyway. This is a precarious situation for us to be in with the season slipping by, and these next few games will tell us a lot.
