Pochettino to welcome £60m signing to Chelsea in January

Mauricio Pochettino's tutored side, Chelsea have an interest in Inter Milan central defender Alessandro Bastoni.

According to Calciomercatoweb, Chelsea like Alessandro Bastoni and Inter could be prepared to let him go for a

round €70m (£60.9m) next summer.

The Blues signed Axel Disasi in the last transfer window and have options in central defence, but Thiago Silva could leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

This is not the first time Bastoni has been linked with a move to England.

Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokbel told The Spurs Chat Podcast earlier this year that former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was desperate to sign the 24-year-old during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea like Alessandro Bastoni

While Chelsea may be fans of Bastoni, as Calciomercatoweb are reporting, it does not mean that the Blues should go out and buy the Italian.

Again, yes, Silva may depart Mauricio Pochettino’s side next summer. But if he does, they will still have Disasi, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.

Colwill and Badiashile are both left-footed centre-backs as well, so does it really make sense for Chelsea to go and fork out £60m on Bastoni?

Ultimately, we do not think the Italy international needs to be a priority for Pochettino.

If his current centre-half options like Badiashile and Fofana keep getting injured, then maybe it is something for the Argentine to consider. But right now, they look all right at centre-back, and it is not impossible that Silva ends up staying for at least one more season.

The former Paris Saint-Germain captain is showing that he is still capable of playing at this level, starting in all nine of Chelsea’s Premier League games so far this campaign, including the recent 2-2 draw with Arsenal. Central defence is definitely one of the stronger areas of Pochettino’s squad.
