Fabrizio Romano reveals Pochettino's transfer decision for a world-class player

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino was insistent that Chelsea kept hold of Mykhailo Mudryk this summer.

He took to YouTube to state that despite there being interested parties in his services, there was no chance the club were going to let him go.

Pochettino has treated Mudryk as somewhat of a pet project this season, with the intention being to help him become the player many were instantly expecting to see in January.

The 22-year-old has begun to turn heads this season as he is threatening to do just that. He now has two goals in his last two starts for the club.

The most recent strike against Arsenal was perhaps a sign that his luck was finally turning.

Many believe it was an intended cross that ended up beating David Raya and putting Chelsea 2-0 up at the time.

Pochettino insisted Chelsea keep Mudryk

The admiration for him during his celebration showed just how much of a fan favourite he is at Stamford Bridge, with supporters clearly wanting him to succeed.

Romano has now claimed that a number of clubs approached Chelsea this season to potentially sign him, however the Blues were in no mood to negotiate thanks to Pochettino’s desire to keep him.

He said: “Chelsea had approaches for Mykhailo Mudryk in the summer, but the message was always the same from the board and the coach; protect, support and trust the player.

They never wanted him to leave and they believe he will be a star.”

It remains to be seen whether Mudryk continues in the starting side to face Brentford on Saturday.

However, he has already been spotted in deep conversation with the manager this week during training, perhaps suggesting that he is in line for a start.
