Chelsea are interested in signing Charlton Athletic striker Miles Leaburn.
That is according to a report from The Daily Mail.Chelsea fans may be familiar with the name Miles Leaburn. That is because he spent time in the Blues academy before joining Charlton in 2019.
He’s now a 19-year-old rising star making a big impression for League One club Charlton. In fact, he’s scored six goals in 10 games across all competitions this season for them.
The Daily Mail has claimed on Friday morning that Premier League duo Chelsea and Brentford are among the clubs keeping tabs on Charlton’s youngster.
It is explained that a number of teams are monitoring the 6ft 6in frontman after his breakout into senior football.
The report says that the English talent is still under contract at The Valley for another couple of years, so Charlton are under no immediate pressure to sell their prized asset. Interestingly, they rejected an offer from an unnamed Bundesliga club in the summer worth over £3million.
We’re super impressed by 19 goals in 50 first-team games in Charlton colours for Leaburn.
The former Chelsea prospect has been fast-tracked into men’s football by taking this route, with his colossal 6ft 6in frame giving him an advantage when making the leap.
Described as “fantastic” by former Charlton manager Ben Garner (South London Press), Leaburn looks destined for the top level further down the line. Is he ready to join a Premier League outfit yet, though?
Chelsea do already own numerous talented young strikers, including Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja in the first-team squad. Elsewhere, 20-year-old youngster Mason Burstow is currently out on loan at Sunderland.
The Blues transfer model under this ownership has to buy in bulk some of the best youngsters in the game, so we understand why they’re looking at an interesting goalscorer in the third-tier of English football. Let’s wait and see which interested buyer blinks first in the race to sign him.
