Chelsea agree deal for the signing of a world-class player

Chelsea have agreed a deal in principle to sign Norwich City youngster Alex Matos on a free transfer this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 18-year-old forward is out of contract at Carrow Road at the end of the season and he has informed the Championship side of his intentions to leave the club when his deal expires.

It is understood that the Canaries are set to include a sell-on clause in his deal as part of the compensation for his transfer.

The English youngster is the latest player to join the setup at Cobham following a number of staff changes behind the scenes.

Chelsea promoted Jim Fraser as the club’s head of youth development and recruitment last month, and Matos is part of a new wave of youngsters being introduced to the club.

Matos joined the Norwich academy from Luton Town after impressing club scouts at Under-12 level.

The youngster has worked his way through the ranks of the Norwich setup and has become a regular in the Under-18s after making his debut at that level last season.

Matos began his scholarship journey at Norwich after putting pen to paper in July 2021, and just a year later the club secured offered him his first professional deal.

Primarily deployed on the right wing, Matos has provided three assists in 13 appearances in Premier League 2 this season.

He has also amassed some international experience with England, appearing for the Three Lions at Under-15 level earlier in his career.
