Former Premier League and Arsenal hitman Ian Wright has showered praises on Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah following the youngster’s recent breakthrough in the first-team.Speaking on his podcast, Wright who has been impressed with Chalobah’s performances thus far, compared the 22 year-old to a young Virgil van Dijk and he expects the Englishman to feature more prominently as the season unfolds.
He said: ‘I watched Chalobah play for Ipswich a couple of times where he played in that vein where you think I’d like to see him against better quality.’ ‘Watching him against Arsenal in pre-season I was thinking, “wow, maybe it’s just a pre-season friendly he looks good”,’ Wright said.
i‘I watched him against Villarreal in the Super Cup and I thought, “he’s really good”.’ ‘You know what he reminded me of, not the same player, not the same stature, but the same way Van Dijk played for Celtic,’ Wright added. ‘People said he’s taking liberties just because he’s good and not the same standard as others.
Chalobah has impressed Blues boss Thomas Tuchel in pre-season and continued in that fine path by scoring on his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace last weekend.
