Deadline Day: Chelsea fans eagerly await the return of their former world-class player
Chelsea are unlikely to do any form of business as far as incomings are concerned on the transfer deadline day, but that has not stopped the fans from dreaming
Transfer deadline day is officially upon us and clubs right across England will be busy trying to wrap up those last-minute deals.
Despite Thomas Tuchel’s arrival last week, following the dismissal of Frank Lampard, Chelsea’s stance has not changed, with the club not in the market for any new recruits ahead of tonight’s deadline.
There could be a couple of outgoings, though, with midfielder Billy Gilmour being touted for a loan exit, with Premier League rivals Southampton keen on striking a late deal.
However, Chelsea’s club photographer is not expected to be busy snapping pictures of any new arrivals at their Cobham training base today.
That, though, is bound to disappoint some Chelsea fans, who have been urging the club and transfer guru Marina Granovskaia to make some last-minute additions, even though the club have made it clear they have no plans to spend any further money until the summer.
To get an idea of what kind of last-minute deals Chelsea’s supporters would like to see the club conclude, football.london gave the club’s fans the opportunity to get in touch and put forward their suggestions for who they would like to see arrive at Stamford Bridge on deadline day.
On Twitter, we asked supporters to get in touch with their suggestions and they certainly didn’t fail to disappoint. Below, we have put together a snapshot of which players some Chelsea fans would like to see arrive in west London ahead of this evening’s 11pm deadline…
As you will be able to see from the responses above, a fair few Blues fans would love to see Diego Costa seal a shock return to Stamford Bridge.
Costa, though, is not the only player some of Chelsea’s fans would like to see holding up a Blues scarf by the close of play this evening, with others calling for the club to land Rice and Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland.
The Blues are firmly interested in Haaland but a move for him is not going to be considered until the summer. Other names mentioned by Chelsea fans were David Alaba of Bayern Munich and in-form Leicester City ace James Maddison.
